Red, White, Blue and Rain

Sorry I haven't been around this past month or so. I've been busy with starting my wedding plans (Yup! We finally set a date!), having John's family visit, and lots of little things that got in the way. But I'm back and refreshed! The break away has allowed me to come back recharge and gain back the creativity I was losing.

In honor of 4th of July, here's what I wore today. The red rain boots and little red umbrella combo is my favorite to wear in the rain, the pop of color makes me instantly happy and stand out from the crowd of navys and blacks.

I just got the cute dress a few days ago at Target, on sale too! I had been eyeing it for some time, I love the white open dots and the style but I wasn't about to pay almost $30 for it, I'm on a budget baby. I waited it out and with a coupon, I got that dress and another for half off! Target is having lots of good clearance racks on women's clothing and home decor so check them out for great discounts.

Dec 20th. No Jacket Needed

I haven't been caught up with the crazy busy holiday spirit yet but I have a feeling it'll be coming soon. What I am missing is Jack Frost. Where's the snow? Why aren't I'm wearing my purple puffer coat? I don't know if I'm missing my winter wonderland because I'm now living in Virgina instead of Connecticut, global warming, or because I've been watching too many holiday movies in which it's always snowing before Christmas. Either way, I'm wearing a thrifted H&M dress, my trusty Target tights, Target ring, Great Grandmother's necklace, and boots I bought with my first ever paycheck sans a jacket only 5 days before Christmas.

Pitch Black

Last night I went to my first haunted house of the season. I love being scared, it's such a thrill to not know what's going on and where you're going, especially if the pitch black walls are getting narrower and narrower. That's fun in my book!

I wore my Forever 21 thrift find faux leather skirt which was only $3.50, I'm good!  Knowing I was going to be standing outside for a good hour, I threw on my $5 faux leather jacket from last year. Get this, I got it from Wal-Mart. Sometimes you just never know when you might find something good.

New Town, Crappy Thrift Shops

One of the great things I like about moving to a new town is the exploration of it. It's fun finding the popular hang out places, restaurants, the cool parks, and my favorite, the best thrift shops. I love going to places like Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Savers because I'm able to find wonderful, unique household items, furniture, and clothing that's been gently used and still looks great. Sadly, I'm having a hell of a time finding the ONE near my place in Virginia. Today, I did spend the afternoon looking at 4 shops and I just wasn't impressed. Most were poorly lit and overcrowded with dusty merchandise and tiny knick knacks.

My hope is that if I look outside town and into the more popular cities, I'll find what I'm looking for. So please, wish me luck on my search for the perfect thrift/consignment shop :)

Making An Apartment Into A Home

Sorry for my absence but a lot is going on right now. My fiance and I are currently getting things ready to move to Virginia and that means lots and lots of cleaning (yuck!). It also means many Goodwill donation trips which I don't mind because it's nice to get rid of stuff I could do without. I never knew how much planning, organization, and little details that must be taken care of while doing a move.

I'm looking forward to exploring a new state and redoing my new apartment. I haven't seen the new place yet because we weren't able to take the time off to drive down there (about 10 hour drive). I have seen pictures and I like what I've seen so far. As you know by now I'm a VINTAGE nerd and I've always been drawn to the mid century style homes. With a fresh slate, I'm making sure the new place will ooze mid century loveliness. I've done lots of window shopping, browsing Pinterest inspiration boards, and trips to thrift stores. So far, I've been able to pick a cute side table and an antique radio, both needing some TLC.

Still looking for two nightstands and two office desks with the vintage feel and infamous skinny legs. Hopefully once I get down to Virginia, I'll find affordable luck!
