Perfume Of The Moment

The perfume of the month is Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf, which I find so appropriate given the namesake and the beautiful month of May. The fragrance is described as a floral explosion which releases a profusion of flowers that has the power to make everything seem more positive. Magically evocative notes immediately awaken your deepest senses, giving you the impression of living life in your own secret garden, away from reality. Sambac jasmine, centifolia rose, cattleya orchid, and ballerina freesia bloom on a base of patchouli.

Doesn't that sound like Springtime perfection? The soft and light perfume's style is described as Oriental, Gourmand, and of course, Floral. I think Flowerbomb is such an inviting scent for spring and summer and it lasts all day! It's been said that majority of men really like the scent so if you're looking for your summer romance, try picking up a bottle. The bottle itself is a fun design, it resembles a hand grenade, and given that the name is Flowerbomb, I get it.

Victor & Rolf also created a men's version, Spicebomb. The explosive colognes is infused with the codes of masculine perfumery with olfactory dynamite. Spicebomb is an explosive cocktail of virility that transforms you into a powerful, intense and daring man

Spicebomb is described as an explosive encounter between two accords with detonating tones: the first, explosive, fuses zesty, fresh notes while the cold spices leave their icy bite. The second, addictive, combines a middle note of incandescent spices with a wholly masculine combination of leather and tobacco as well as the brute force of vetiver.

The top notes are bergamot, grapefruit, pink pepper, and elemi. The base notes include leather, vetiver, and tobacco while the middle include cinnamon, chili pepper, and saffron. The style is explosive, addictive, and seductive. It's a nice, clean scent without being overpowering.

Sounds pretty sexy, right? I'm about to pick up a bottle for Johnny :)

Perfume Of The Moment

This month's perfume of the moment is Gucci Premiere, inspired by timeless Hollywood glamour. Its sophisticated woody musky fragerence signals an invitation to embrace own's own red carpet moments.

Here's the best description of the scent I found, written by Sephora, "The fragrance opens with the luxury and exuberance of a vintage champagne. A burst of effervescent bergamot fused with feminine and celebratory orange blossom conveys the heady excitement of the red carpet entrance. At the scent's core nestle, the brilliant white flowers of an intense bouquet, laced with a magnetically sensual modern musk. The timeless allure of the leading lady, the perfect balance of power and sensuality, inspires a collective captured breath. The fragrance's warm and indulgent foundation rests in a beguiling cocktail of subtly smoky leather and creamy balsamic woods that epitomizes absolute glamour."

Doesn't it sound so sexy and powerful?

Here's more about Gucci and it's Premiere perfume, "Gucci has long distinguished itself as the label of success for the world’s most stylish individuals. Inspired by the beautiful Gucci Premiere Couture collection that debuted at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, Creative Director Frida Giannini conceived a new fragrance legend in the iconic and sophisticated form of Gucci Premiere. Gucci Premiere is a powerfully sophisticated aroma, with vigorous notes of wood and musk. Just as a leading lady graces the red carpet with her couture Gucci gown, so every woman deserves her Gucci Premiere moment".

There are many raves about the fragrance but there a few critics. The most common complaint is that the scent doesn't hold for a long period of time. Either way, the next time I'm at a department store, I'll be stopping by the fragrance counter and testing it out!

Perfume Of The Moment

Isaac Mizrahi's premiere perfume is Fabulous and it sure is! I saw the perfume's magazine in this month's Glamour issue and the scent was clean and delicious! The feminine and seductive fragrance has top notes of mandarin, nectarine and bergamot, along with hints (middle notes) of jasmine, tuberose, freesia, peony, and a dry smart finish with sandalwood, vanilla and cedar. The perfume reminds me of a warm spring day. The development was between Mizrahi with The Cloudbreak Group and Firmenich, the largest privately-owned manufacturer of fragrance oil in the perfume and flavor business.

On why Mizrahi wanted to create a fragrance, "Creating a fragrance feels like the last piece of the puzzle," said Mizrahi. "I've been designing clothes, accessories, housewares - everything for a woman's lifestyle - for nearly thirty years. FABULOUS is my opportunity to offer women something to identify with on a whole other emotional level".

The bottle's design is adorable and has a fun retro chic appeal. The unexpected, off-centered neck on a retro-chic soft pink atomizer sprinkled with pink polka dots on the collar is quirky and playful--just what you'd expect from Isaac!

Mizrahi on his bottle's design, "Well originally I wanted to do something that teetered around like a child’s toy. And we kind of developed that and it was deemed not the most safe product in the world to people. So I decided to just design an orb that was slightly tilted that way. I just love the quirk of it and the beauty of it. The whole central idea of trying to revive the glamour and the fabulousness of this, of the spray."

Perfume Of The Moment

Miss Dior caught my eye with its cute as a button bottle and its feminine silver bow. Did you know that Miss Dior Original was first developed in 1947? But be aware that the Original is not the same as Miss Dior due to the later introduction of Italian Mandarin Essence instead of the original green Galbanum note. The classic fragrance, inspired by love and romance, has been described as,"...audacious chypre with a citrusy freshness and a jasmine heart. Sprinkled with fruity notes and underscored by the elegance of patchouli...". My favorite perfumes always have a fruity citrus note which made me even more intrigued by Miss Dior.

The notes that make up the fragrance include Italian Mandarin Essence, Egyptian Jasmine Absolute, Indonesian Patchouli Essence and its style is described as pure, precious and elegant (like me! HA!).

The perfume has its own mini interactive website and I highly suggest you check it out. There's a sexy video which includes Natalie Portman and a studmuffin model. You can learn more about the key ingredients, the history of Miss Dior, and see more videos including behind the scenes and a compelling short film. It's amazing how much history one perfume bottle can posses.

Perfume Of The Moment

I consider October the month of sweet, mysterious, fun, and playfully sensual sensations. With Autumn telling us cozy on up and Halloween telling us to live on the edge, it feels like Prada's CANDY is the new Perfume Of The Moment.

The fragrance includes notes of caramel, white musk, vanilla, and noble benjoin. Candy's style is labeled as, "carefree, sophisticated, and sensual".

Here's the official description, "Prada CANDY is instantly seductive—pure pleasure wrapped in impulsive charm. In an explosion of shocking pink and gold, Prada CANDY takes us on a walk on the wild side, showing us a new facet of Prada femininity where more is more and excess is everything. Magnified by white musks, noble benzoin comes together with a modern caramel accord to give the fragrance a truly unique signature". CANDY is also available in gift set, body lotion, and shower gel.

Now doesn't that remind you of Autumn, Halloween, and Love Potion #9? It sure does to me!

How To Apply Perfume Like A Goddess

In my last post I wrote about the perfume of the moment. Today I like to share with you how to apply perfume like a pro. As a child I was always told to spray out into the air, walk into the misted air, and spin around. I'm not sure where I got this idea from but I liked the act of spinning around and I did smell good afterwards. There are more practical methods of spraying on perfume and I'll be sharing them with you.

Here are the tips:

  1. Location, location, location: spritz behind your knees, wrists, and bottom clothing. The reasoning being that as the day goes on, the fragrance evaporatesm rising upward. You'll be smelling lovely all day long.
  2. Date Night: For the more sensenual perfumes, squirt a little behind the ears and neck. Your man will be lightly enveloped in the sweet scent that he'll think is you.
  3. Walk it out: My idea of spraying and spinning around is actually half right. Instead of spinning around it in, spray in front of your body and walk through mist. It'll fall nicely on your skin, hair, and clothes without the spin. Psstt, if you do to do a little twirl, I won't tell, promise.
  4. Build upon: If walking it out isn't your cup of tea, try this method. Holding the bottle 6-7 inches from your body, spray part once. Wait a few minutes to let the perfume settle and release its top notes. Then if needed, repeat.

Perfumes can be expensive and has a shelf life of anywhere from 1 to 8 years (wide range huh?). Here are some tips to prolonge the life of each bottle:

  1. No Bathrooms:The high temperature and gross humidity is awful for fragrances. They can alter the scent, making it bolder or just unpleasant.
  2. Turn the lights off: like meds, perfumes should be sheltered away from light. The closet, dresser drawer are good options.
  3. Ice cold baby: The best and freakiest place for your favorite bottle of perfume is the fridge. If you do store it in there, keep away from foods that easily take in other scents like butter.

Signature Scent

Have you ever had a signature perfume that you wore in high school or college? There is one perfume that never fails to transport me back into my high school days, filled with puppy love, staying after school with Johnny, sweet scented spring air, giggles, handholding, and love notes. Ralph Lauren's Romance does that for me. I typically enjoy fruity or citrus scents rather than floral and musk but there is just something about it. For those who are not familiar with Romance, it includes notes of sungoddess rose, marigold, ginger, chamomile oil, yellow freesia, white violet, lotus flower, day lily, patchouli, oakmoss, and musk. Ralph Lauren and Sephora describes Romance as "the women's fragrance that evokes the timeless essence of falling in love..." and boy they are right!

The advertisements for Romance are sensual, liberating, passionate, dreamy, and involves every girl's fantasy. In high school, I'd ripped out the ads and plastered them on my closet door, along with other posters and pictures. I even had to hid the bottle from my younger cousin so she wouldn't use it all (ha ha memories).

Horses, grassy field, stunning dress, handsome man, and sweet kiss, so charming
