Grandma's Cold and Flu Remedies

Hi Dolls! We are now in cold and flu season and we have not been immune. I've had three colds and one flu since September and Johnny has had two colds. Although modern medicine has helped us tremendously, I still find myself going back to the old fashion cold and flu remedies. Here is a list of some old fashion cold and flu remedies:

To relieve a cough and chest congestion: Hot toddy

Ingredients:
2 lemons (not lemon juice)
1/4 cup of honey
2 cloves of smashed garlic
2 tbs of sugar (optional)
1/2 tsp of mint or dried ginger
whiskey or rum (optional)

Directions:
Squeeze the lemon juice from the 2 fresh lemons and put the juice in a saucepan. Add the honey and the rest of the ingredients to the saucepan and bring to boil. Set aside to cool for a few minutes and then add rum or brandy.

Cold fighter: Home made chicken or vegetable soup

Well I don't think I need to write down the common and popular home made chicken or vegetable soup recipe :) My only advice is to use fresh herbs and to add lots vegetables.

Soothe a sore throat

Gargle warm water mixed with salt. After you gargle, swallow the  mix.

Achy muscles

Ingredients:
1 tbs of horseradish
1/2 cup of olive oil

Directions:
Mix the two directions and then let it sit for about 30 minutes. Then use the mixture as a massage oil and get instant relief of achy muscles.

Clear sinuses: Neti pot

The neti pot is as old as dirt and successfully rinses out the sinuses. Just add warm water and salt inside.
