Summer Beauty Trends

With summer less than a month away and our temperatures rising, it's time to give thought about the best no mess, no stick, summer beauty trends out there. It's hard to even think about wearing foundation, blush, or lip gloss when you'll be sweating it off in a few hours but it's all good! This season, the trends are carefree, forgiving of the heat and humidity, and so fun to play with so let's have a look starting with the base.

Summer 2013 beauty trends

The thought of wearing full on foundation to the beach is seriously gross! One wipe to the forehead, and your hand is covered in makeup and sweat, not cute. For SPF infused light coverage, go for BB or CC creams. Check out my post  on BB creams and finding the best one for you.

Bronzing all over with that big fluffy brush is almost too summery and so expected. One trend I like for its uniqueness is ditching the all over and go for a peachy, subtle bronzer look, only on the cheekbones. Try this Too Faced Bronzed & Poreless Perfect Bronzer, available at Sephora.

Lipsticks tend to get the cold shoulder during the hot summer days. We go for a light lip gloss which is fine but I don't like the sticky feeling that comes all with it. I'm already feeling stick and gross with the humidity, do I really need it on my lips? Matte pop lips are the answer!! BOLD, matte lips were a stand-out trend at the spring/summer 2013 shows. The velvety matte lip in a summery bright, is still  seasonal, but the finish makes it fresh. You can go a little neon in the middle of the lips for more dimension or shape up your lips for a fuller retro look. How to wear coral lips

Now what about nights? Everyone knows that there's a day and there's a nighttime lipstick and I've got both covered. The day belongs to the bold matte pop lips and the night to the smoldering satin dark berry or cherry. Keep your lips luscious and modern by avoiding shades with chocolate brown undertones, which can give it a 90's feel.

Which trend are excited about trying?
I want to try out the lipstick, both pop and dark cherry!

How To Wear Coral Lipstick

A couple of posts ago, I mentioned how coral lips were going to be big this Spring and Summer and why shouldn't it be? It's such a juicy, neon-ish color; perfect for the fashion conscious girls out there who want a pop of color on their lips. Coral lipstick is also pretty intimidating to don and is often ignored. The orange tinted shade is no where near the comfortable reds/pinks realm and women don't know how to wear it correctly. Well, I was one of those girls. I adored the shade on other women but when it came to my lips, forget it! I've gotten over the fear with these simple make-up tips and hopefully, they'll help you too.

How To Wear Coral Lipstick

Here are 10 more in depth tricks and tips:

  1. Coral looks its best on tan skin so try using a light bronzer to warm up your skin and create a sun kissed beach look.
  2. Coral has a nasty habit of showing off your not so bright white teeth. Try OTC teeth whitening strips beforehand.
  3. Be aware of your skin shade. Fair, cool skin tones should look for coral lipstick with a pink or blue undertone while medium, darker, and warm skin tones should look for lipstick with a pink to more true orange undertone. If your not sure if your cool or warm, look at your wrist. If your veins are bluish, then you have a cool skin tone. If your veins are greenish, then you have a warm skin tone.
  4. Stay away from iridescent or shimmery shades or you'll look like your grandma’s coral or a blast from the '80s. Non-shimmery pops of coral will be spring’s bold, bright accessory.
  5. If you can, also avoid using lip liners which can be aging and look too heavy. Try a stick concealer which will make your lips more paste, softer, and less dramatic.
  6. Lip primer (or conceal) is key to avoid the bright color from bleeding into the lines around your mouth.
  7. Day time look: coral-colored lip gloss and natural warm look.
  8. Night time look: matte or cream and soft, light smokey eye with #9. Also glance over at #4 again.
  9. Stay in the family with the rest of your makeup. Peach, gold, poppy, and copper are wonderful complementary colors to apple to the cheeks and eyes.
  10.  Keep a small handy mirror with you. With such a bright, bold color, you can't be too careful when reapplying.

Are you bold enough to sport coral lips?
